How Hello Kitty Party Land characters work
In Hello Kitty Party Land you play as a chibi avatar you design, paired with a Sanrio partner. Bandai Namco says there are 16 partner characters to choose from, but it has not published the full list; the manual confirms Badtz-Maru, unlocked by playing the Blooming Flower Festival board. You can change partners in the Partner Room inside the Photo Studio.
The rest of the more than 145 Hello Kitty Party Land characters live around Hometown and host mini games. Talking to them and playing their mini games earns stickers for your Sticker Book; raising friendship (the star icons) unlocks special clothing.
